All About Today…

All About Today…

Creative title, I know! ;o)

Well, today has been interesting. An odd mixture of things, I would say. I really dislike the start of Daylight Saving Time (is it with or without an “s”? I googled it and saw it both ways). Anyway, it is hard enough to adjust as an adult. But to be a toddler and not understand why nap and bed are earlier than you are used to… Well, that is just a joyous occasion to witness! ;o) But I am getting ahead of myself.

We woke up late this morning, plus Thomas was still sick this morning, and I woke up with a throbbing earache, so we (once again) missed church. I HATE that we miss so much. I really do. I am saying right now that we ARE GOING next week! Thankfully, Zeeva was pretty good this morning and we both were feeling quite a bit better by this afternoon. I am praying for an awesome night’s sleep tonight so we can both get fully heathy again. Zeeva has not been sleeping well lately and has been waking up many times during the night. It does not matter how deep your sleep is… If you are woken up every hour or two, you are never going to feel rested! She decided to play today instead of taking a nap (I blame DST!), and only ended up sleeping for about 45 minutes, so I am really hoping she will sleep great. She also got into a bunch of mischief during her nap time so I hope she does not decide to do that again! Thomas peeked in to check on her at one point, only to find that she was taking a “nap” in one of her dresser drawers. Talk about a terrifying moment! Thankfully, her dresser is short and heavy and unlikely to tip over but we definitely need to attach the anchor straps we bought recently. The cute thing about this was that she had put three of her stuffies in two of the drawers, so they could take “naps” with her! Lol! I love that she has started to do some of that pretend play. It is so fun to watch.

The rest of the day was fine… Zeeva ate more salad than mac and cheese at dinner! Woohoo! I even gave her a bowl of it just for herself this time because she keeps stealing it from everyone else. As bedtime drew near though, we could tell she was getting tired… Fussiness for no apparent reason, and she threw a complete fit when it was time to get ready for bed. Oh well!

I almost forgot to share the BIG news! After lunch, Zeeva ran up to me with her Dolly’s potty, yelling “Pee! Pee! Pee!”! So we ran to the bathroom, where she sat on her froggy potty for quite a while. Then she wanted to try to real toilet… Ad she actually peed a tiny bit in it! We had several more bathroom runs throughout the day, but no more successes. But I am so proud of her for actually letting us know! I think she was actually peeing in her diaper every time she told me that because it was wet each time I took it off. I may put her in undies tomorrow. We shall see.

Speaking of tomorrow… I am scared to weigh myself! I have not done too badly today with eating and I have gotten a little activity in so far (Just Dance), but I am still scared to see my weight. It is what it is, I suppose! Wish me luck!

My Very First GIVEAWAY!!!

My Very First GIVEAWAY!!!

Yep…. You read the title right. I am having my very first GIVEAWAY! I am very excited! Somehow this makes my blog seem more “official” to me!  :o)

I used Tiny Prints two years ago when we were sending out our first Christmas cards after Zeeva was born. I have been in love ever since and keep tempting myself with their creations every time I have a reason to send out cards. They have a wonderful selection of every type of card (and other items) you could possibly imagine, but I especially love their Holiday Cards. They have traditional cards and bright cards that are more modern, religious cards (which include holidays other than Christmas, like Hanukkah), and cards in which your fur babies take center stage. I especially love that most of their cards include space for at least one photo… I know that I love receiving photo cards, so I like to send them out too. There is something for everyone on Tiny Prints!

In addition to the giveaway that I am having, I also want to share that Tiny Prints has great specials all the time. Here is a link so you can check out some of the ones they are having right now! http://www.tinyprints.com/promo/tiny-prints-coupon-codes-promotions.htm So, even if you are not the lucky winner, you can still get a great deal on some personalized cards. Anyone who knows me, knows that I LOVE a good deal!

I was going to post a sneak-peek of the card that we are going to send out this year… But I honestly cannot decide on one yet! Lol… There are just too many awesome ones to make a decision yet! We still need to take some photos, so hopefully that will help us choose. But here are a few examples of the awesome designs that Tiny Prints has available.

Weigh-In Wednesday…

Weigh-In Wednesday…

I have been sick in some way for over a week now.  :o( So, I have not started my new round of ChaLEAN Extreme yet, like I planned. Life happens sometimes. Zeeva decided to give me her Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease… It is rare for adults to get it because most people have it when they are kids. But I am apparently not most people! Lol. Thankfully, I did not have much rash. It has mostly been headaches, aches and pains, dizziness, and exhaustion. I feel like I could sleep for a whole week. I did sleep almost all day Monday!

There is only one “positive” about being sick… I have not had much of an appetite. I actually ended up losing 1.3 pounds since Saturday! Crazy!! But I will take it.

I am planning on getting back in the swing of things with workouts as soon as I have a day where I feel good… And not weak!

Ps… One positive thing about being sick this time around… I normally seek out comfort food when I am sick, especially with the types of symptoms I have been having. I generally want some Sprite and some ice cream. But I have not even really thought about those things this time around! I have had a couple of ice cream cravings, but I have not caved. I am more than halfway done with my FOURTH week of being sweet-free and I am to going to let being sick throw me off course. It has already thrown off my workouts, I will not let it take this as well!

Kicking It Into Gear!

Kicking It Into Gear!

I have not been good about exercising this week. My head has just not been in the game, which is not good. We did do several family walks, but they are not exactly the same as an intense ChaLEAN Extreme workout.

But today is a new day! Thomas and I killed our workout tonight…. It was insanely hard, after not having done a major workout like that for a week, but it felt sooooo good! I am down to ONE WEEK LEFT before my one-year anniversary of being on my weight-loss journey and I intend to put it to good use and really kill it!  I am not going to weigh myself until my anniversary, which is Saturday… Which is also measurement day!  :o) I am excited!

In related news, I have been doing awesomely with being sweet free! Two whole weeks down and five (GASP!) to go! It sounds like an insanely long time, but I am excited to prove to myself that I can do it.

Side note… Please send up prayers for Zeeva! She has a horrible rash right now and a fever on and off. She seems to be doing ok, other than being a bit fussy at times. But I just feel so bad for her. The rash looks like it hurts a ton (but I do not think it really does). Poor kiddo! It is so hard when she is sick!

Being Sick Equals No Workouts…

Being Sick Equals No Workouts…

I have been sick since Tuesday and have not worked out since Monday. For someone who has been trying hard to exercise every day, taking a forced break is kind of hard. And it is not that I am addicted to exercising or really missing all the sweat or anything like that… I just know that if I get in the habit of not working out, it can make it very hard to get back into that habit.

So, tonight, I decided to be stubborn. I am doing a six-week pushup challenge… I do a scheduled amount of pushups every other day, based on my starting skill level. It is at hundredpushup.com, if anyone is interested (and it is AWESOME! Everyone should do it!). Anyway, yesterday was my pushup day and I still felt horrible at that point, so I decided to wait until today. But I am still sick today, even though I am feeling a bit better. So part of me wanted to put it off another day…. But the stubborn part of me won out! I did my scheduled workout for week 4, day 3! I did rest a bit longer than “required” in between sets, but only by about a minute. I did 29, 33, 29, 29…. And 55!!  FIFTY-FIVE!!!!!  I broke the fifty mark! AND I did ELEVEN more than I did on my previous final set (on Monday). I was not sick yet on Monday when I did my pushups and today I was sick… That just goes to show you how far a little bit of stubbornness can go!

Weigh-In Wednesday…

Weigh-In Wednesday…

I gained 0.9 pounds this week. Honestly, I was not at all surprised to see that. I started weaning Zeeva off of her morning nursing session yesterday, so I have probably half a pound of milk weight in me right now. Lately I have also just been feeling… off. I cannot really explain it. I am just tired all the time. Even right now, I m sitting here typing, just feeling completely drained. I am not sure what my deal is but I hope I snap out of it soon.

Just a Thought…

Just a Thought…

I had a thought tonight about why I may have stayed the same weight this week. At the beginning of January, I decreased my dosage of Metformin by half. My doctor warned me to keep a close eye on my weight and if I started gaining for no apparent reason, then I need to increase my dose again because it means that my body needs the extra medicine. It occurred to me as I took my medicine at dinner that this could be a starting indicator that I might need to increase my medicine again. So I will definitely be keeping a close eye on this!

Comic Relief, Pain and Motivation…

Comic Relief, Pain and Motivation…

You know that song that goes “Bum… Bum… Bum…… BUMBUM!”? Well, that song was playing in my head this afternoon as I went to try a workout on an elliptical for the first time. Before I tell you how it went, let me share the back story with you.

My sister to an elliptical a year or two ago. She was moving last summer and the house she was moving into already had one, so she needed a place to store hers. It was June and I had (kind of!) just started trying to lose weight, so I volunteered our house to be it’s new home. I had big plans for it. And it has just sat in our office for the past seven months, collecting dust. There is a simple reason that it has not been used… I am terrified of it!  LOL!

Now, you may think I am being silly, but I promise that I really am scared of the elliptical. I like the idea of it… Something that gives you a great cardio workout while also giving you an excellent leg workout. Sounds good to me! However, there was a huge flaw in my plan… Me! I am a HUGE clutz! My friends and family can back me up on this. I have fallen down at least a dozen painful flights of stairs in the past decade, some of which have resulted in injury. I have also tripped over my own two feet more times than can possibly be kept track of. I now view stairs as something to fear, and even get nervous sometimes when I am carrying Zeeva, even on very level ground! So, when the elliptical was brought here and I saw how tall it was and how much coordination it looked like it would require, I was filled with dread. So there the elliptical sat.

Fast forward to December… I decided to ask my sister for a crash course on the elliptical, thinking that I needed to finally get brave and try it out. It seemed like such a waste to have a great piece of exercise equipment at my disposal and not use it. She gave me a short lesson on it and it seemed very easy, but I quickly retreated back to scared mode. So I decided to make myself do something about it. I put it on my January exercise chart so I would be forced to confront it. And today was my first scheduled elliptical workout!

Now back to the “Bum… Bum… Bum……BUMBUM!”. I had every intention of doing a full thirty minutes on the elliptical today. I was even all warmed up with my muscles nice and stretched and ready to go when I stepped on it. But, within just a few seconds, my knees (which are not the greatest) starting KILLING me. I stopped, adjusted, and started again… Same result. So I kicked off my shoes, frustrated, and walked away with defeat on my mind. And came back a minute later. I put my shoes back on, thinking I can at least do five minutes… Five minutes is better than giving up. I have to tell you, I pushed myself as hard as possible… My knees hurt so much that my face was scrunched up with pain for more than half the time. Did I do the thirty minutes that I originally planned? No. Did I do the five minutes I thought I could push through? No. I did one minute. Just one. Some of you are probably thinking that sounds very pathetic, and it is totally fine with me if you think that. One minute is a lot longer ten seconds, which was the point when I first started feeling like my knees would explode. I know I pushed my bad knees as far as they could go (thanks mom for that particular genetic inheritance!) and I know that I came back and tried again instead of walking away in defeat. I will try the elliptical again… Maybe I will never get past that one minute mark. Or maybe one minute will turn into two, which will grow into five, which will eventually build into that thirty minutes that I originally planned. Not trying will not get me anywhere!

Weigh-In Wednesday…

Weigh-In Wednesday…

I think that this was the first week that I have ever been excited to weigh myself! I even found myself wishing that yesterday was Wednesday so I could see if my extra efforts in the exercise department had paid off… Crazy, I know! Well, crazy for me at least! I am happy to say that my hard work did pay off… I lost 2 pounds! Yippee!! And I am actually sure that I would have lost even more if I had made a couple of different food decisions and had worked out more. But I am not going to beat myself up about it because I did do a great job… 2 pounds in one week is great! I now have 4.3 pounds left until I meet my next goal… 2.15 pounds, 2 weeks in a row… Can I do it? Stay tuned to find out!

On a bit of a side note, we have had absolutely gross weather the past two days. Highs in the upper 40s, rain on and off all day, wind… Yesterday it even HAILED for a few minutes! I am sooo not ready for this! I miss being able to walk outside… It was so nice pushing Zeeva in her stroller, enjoying the sun and the breeze. This weather has definitely put a damper on my desire to exercise. Our house is so dark during the day that all I want to do is sleep!

I did force myself to do some crunches and pushups yesterday. And today I did some of my cardio salsa video, but had to stop due to some pain in my foot. Zeeva was also extra into giggling and chasing my legs around, so it was a very difficult workout time! She is so silly sometimes! Hopefully she will let me do some more exercise later today.
